THE TREE AND BODY OF JUSTICE IN THE 21ST CENTURY

The Tree and Body of Justice

The smoke of injustice pollutes the sky of humanity just like the smoke from a cigarette, which pollutes the lungs of human beings. Unfortunately, many people in this world inhale this smoke directly or indirectly into the lungs of their lives. The outcome is the dehumanization, pain, suffering and unexpected deaths in our world.  I feel strongly that this pollution is not only a serious environmental problem but also a moral issue that needs our full time attention. We are seeking a clean air of justice and a clear vision from the runway of life through the sky as we navigate our way swinging and flapping our wings of dignity and peace just like the propeller of  the Presidential helicopter.

When one part of the body is hurt, the whole body is sick. This is how injustice works. We cannot separate our legs from our hands and head when any part of this body is hurting. Every part has a major role to play toward our dignity. On the other hand our role in contributing to justice is very much similar to the role that hospital plays in treating the parts of our bodies that are not healthy. The Physician cannot give a prescription without understanding the root cause of the illness and so long as the illness is there, the job of the physician is to do his or her best toward helping the patient to heal. By the same token, the law and policies should be made in such a way that it asks the questions; what is the root cause of this problem so that as it makes provision to address the minor causes, the major causes will also receive an immediate, undivided and equal attention in order to bring about complete restoration.

I believe that there should be some harmony with the law so as to avoid giving leverage to “oppressors and tyrants” because one problem could be a direct result of the other. Someone who suffers injustice gets caught up in a downward spiral of multiple problems because one problem creates the other. In another sense, injustice can be portrayed in the different ways that we operate our vehicles or cars. When we have a tire puncture, the car stops running and sometimes, it is dangerous when the tire explodes while the car is in motion. Even if the engine and the alternator as electrical systems are just fine, fact is the role of the tire just as the driving mirror is equally important as the role of the car seats. This is exactly the premise from, which the Founding Fathers founded this nation now called the United States of America after its rebirth.

Donald T. Phillips writes eloquently in his book, Martin Luther King, Jr. on Leadership that “ The Third revolution was the American civil rights movement (1954-1968), mostly nonviolent period of transformation …conducted to change human behavior relating to the doctrine of racial prejudice known as “separate but equal”. Yet, some people in the United States have not changed their behavior yet because they still sanction racial prejudice and mistreated others as sub-humans for their “unjust enrichment”. Part of the American dream is to abolish slavery in particular.

Whether it is invisible, subtle and disguised humanity ought not to blink their eyes when this comes to their attention. Slavery is still a threat to human dignity and is always the root cause of some injustices that plague our societies. Unfortunately, the black supremacist are encouraging the enslavement of their own fellow blacks once they have attained the same economic and political status like those they formally accused of white supremacy.

Yes, America is the leader of the free world, the only super power and so the continuous moral transformation of this society is a prerequisite if this nation must become a moral force to sparkle and shine as a guiding star and light to the rest of humankind. I remember one of my friends told me that Jonathan, you are just experiencing the dark side of America, which unfortunately still happens. While many wonderful things have happened in this country for the world, Plaintiff is joining all forces of progress and justice to state that we must not relent and forget ourselves because slavery is still around. Whether it is visible or invisible it will always be incompatible with the ideals of human dignity. We must therefore become instrument and witnesses for justice in order to bring about peace and harmony of societies.
